After five years of growth, shipments abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles decreased by -7.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 32%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 32%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the key exporter of plastics household articles and toilet articles in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 26% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastics household articles and toilet articles exports, with a CAGR of +15.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Russia (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-9.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight descent. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.1%).

In 2021, approx. X tons of plastics household articles and toilet articles were imported in the CIS; increasing by 17% against 2020. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +12.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 31%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 55% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together took near 39% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of plastics household articles and toilet articles. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+15.0%), Belarus (+13.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+7.2%), Kazakhstan (+5.4%), Armenia (+5.3%) and Moldova (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+5.4 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+4.1 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.4 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -14.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastics household articles and toilet articles in the CIS, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+6.4% per year) and Belarus (+7.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
