In 2022, overseas purchases of platinum catalysts decreased by -28.2% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 130%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, platinum catalysts imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 689%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 95% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X kg), achieving a 5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +129.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported platinum catalysts in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.
