From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Russia (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), with a combined 81% share of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Moldova (with a CAGR of +9.3%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average plum and sloe yield contracted slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, shrinking by -3% on 2021 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of plums and sloes were harvested in the CIS; reducing by -2.4% against 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Exports in CIS
In 2022, shipments abroad of plums and sloes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 95%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plum and sloe exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan was the main exporter of plums and sloes in the CIS, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2022. Moldova (X tons) held a 34% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Azerbaijan (5.9%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plum and sloe supplying countries in the CIS were Uzbekistan ($X), Moldova ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X), together comprising 95% of total exports.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +10.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -15.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, supplies from abroad of plums and sloes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 83% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.8% share, followed by Belarus (5.9%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of plums and sloes. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+22.9%) and Belarus (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+14 p.p.), Belarus (+4 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-19.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plums and sloes in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at -1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+11.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (-13.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
