In 2021, the CIS polyurethanes market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Polyurethanes exports rose modestly to X tons in 2021, surging by 3.7% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, polyurethanes exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +110.8% against 2013 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), comprising a 13% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyurethanes exports from Russia stood at +7.4%. At the same time, Belarus (+55.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +55.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus increased by +12 percentage points.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest polyurethanes supplier in the CIS, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.

In 2021, approx. X tons of polyurethanes in primary forms were imported in the CIS; growing by 9.6% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 67% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+6.6%), Kazakhstan (+4.7%) and Belarus (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +6.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +14 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyurethanes in primary forms in the CIS, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 9.9% share.

In Russia, polyurethanes imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+3.6% per year) and Uzbekistan (+13.1% per year).

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
