After ten years of growth, overseas shipments of polyvinyl chloride decreased by -0.1% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 81%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, polyvinyl chloride exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a 5.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) - each reached a 4.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyvinyl chloride exports from Russia stood at +28.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+183.4%), Belarus (+17.2%) and Kazakhstan (+13.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +183.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Uzbekistan increased by +8.5 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest polyvinyl chloride supplier in the CIS, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 3.4% share.

In Russia, polyvinyl chloride exports increased at an average annual rate of +23.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+21.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+206.9% per year).

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 74% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X tons of polyvinyl chloride were imported in the CIS; shrinking by -9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. Russia was the largest importer of polyvinyl chloride in the CIS, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 45% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (16%), Uzbekistan (12%) and Azerbaijan (4.9%). The following importers - Tajikistan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each finished at a 4% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -9.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tajikistan (+13.5%), Kazakhstan (+8.5%), Azerbaijan (+3.8%), Armenia (+3.6%), Uzbekistan (+2.4%) and Belarus (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan (+12 p.p.), Belarus (+6.9 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.9 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.8 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -31.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest polyvinyl chloride importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), with a combined 79% share of total imports. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +10.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 49%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
