In 2022, overseas shipments of porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware decreased by -17.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, porcelain tableware and kitchenware exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Belarus represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 70% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (8.8%) and Armenia (6.4%).
Exports from Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Armenia (+335.1%), Uzbekistan (+11.3%) and Russia (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +335.1% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+8.8 p.p.) and Armenia (+6.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -3.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 96% of total exports. These countries were followed by Armenia, which accounted for a further 2.4%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Armenia, with a CAGR of +166.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+36.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
Porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports fell rapidly to X tons in 2022, declining by -38.2% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 89%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the largest importer of porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware, generating 61% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Kazakhstan (9.1%) and Tajikistan (7.2%). Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports into Russia stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+31.1%), Tajikistan (+9.1%) and Belarus (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-8.0%) and Azerbaijan (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.), Tajikistan (+5.1 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -2.9%, -3% and -5.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware in the CIS, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 9.7% share.
In Russia, porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports declined by an average annual rate of -4.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tajikistan (+17.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (-1.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -11.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, porcelain tableware and kitchenware import price decreased by -11.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
