In 2021, exports of prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores in the CIS skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 133% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, prepared binders exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 98% of total exports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest prepared binders supplier in the CIS, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to -3.9%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+0.5%).

Imports in CIS
In 2021, overseas purchases of prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, prepared binders imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores, constituting 70% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), making up a 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - together made up 5.2% of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores imports, with a CAGR of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan and Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Azerbaijan (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+6.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-3.3 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores in the CIS, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +2.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+0.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (-5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
