The CIS sauce and seasoning market rose to $X in 2021, surging by 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, sauce and seasoning production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 9.3% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in CIS
For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of sauces and seasonings, which increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 84%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sauce and seasoning exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 78% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), mixing up a 4.8% share of total exports. Belarus (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sauce and seasoning exports from Russia stood at +8.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+15.2%) and Kazakhstan (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Russia (-2.3 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest sauce and seasoning supplier in the CIS, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 4.6% share of total exports.
In Russia, sauce and seasoning exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+12.2% per year) and Belarus (+22.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 22% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Sauce And Seasoning Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of sauces and seasonings imported in the CIS expanded rapidly to X tons, surging by 9.9% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sauce and seasoning imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +32.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the major importer of sauces and seasonings, creating 41% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Belarus (14%), Azerbaijan (5.6%), Moldova (4.8%), Kyrgyzstan (4.7%) and Uzbekistan (4.7%).
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of sauces and seasonings. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+24.0%), Kyrgyzstan (+10.4%), Belarus (+8.8%), Azerbaijan (+8.0%), Moldova (+3.6%) and Kazakhstan (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +24.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan increased by +5, +4.7, +2.1 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sauces and seasonings in the CIS, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +3.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+3.8% per year) and Belarus (+4.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
