In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals, when their volume decreased by -23.8% to X tons. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, preserved cows meat imports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

While the share of Kazakhstan (+7.3 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-1.6 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (-2 p.p.), Tajikistan (-3.9 p.p.) and Russia (-5.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals in the CIS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -2.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+10.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+10.5% per year).
