The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of canned vegetables decreased by -4.7% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the main exporter of canned vegetables, achieving 62% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Armenia (8.1%) and Moldova (6%). Uzbekistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +19.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+46.1%), Armenia (+17.9%) and Belarus (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +46.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Moldova (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+28 p.p.), Armenia (+3.1 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-3.9 p.p.) and Moldova (-30.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest canned vegetable supplier in the CIS, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with an 8.6% share.
In Russia, canned vegetable exports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+19.4% per year) and Armenia (+18.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, imports of canned vegetables in the CIS rose remarkably to X tons, picking up by 8.3% against the year before. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +7.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of canned vegetables, achieving 62% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (10%). Belarus (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of canned vegetables. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+36.3%), Uzbekistan (+30.7%), Armenia (+11.1%), Azerbaijan (+7.6%) and Kazakhstan (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +36.3% from 2012-2022. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+13 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+3.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-18.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported canned vegetables in the CIS, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.7% share.
In Russia, canned vegetable imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+7.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+31.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 6.7%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
