Printing Press Market Size in CIS

The CIS printing press market shrank modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, exports of printing presses in the CIS skyrocketed to X units, rising by 23% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 240%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press exports fell notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 147%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 54% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Moldova (X units), together mixing up a 43% share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the printing presses exports, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+9.9%) and Russia (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+47 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -8.7% and -36.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest printing press supplier in the CIS, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -5.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+6.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+17.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, declining by -37.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+27.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, the amount of printing presses imported in the CIS skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 19% on the year before. Overall, imports showed slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, printing press imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importer of printing presses in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 53% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (9.8%), Tajikistan (9.3%) and Belarus (6.7%). Moldova (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to printing press imports into Russia stood at -3.8%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+60.0%), Tajikistan (+34.7%), Moldova (+15.2%), Kazakhstan (+11.0%), Belarus (+5.9%) and Azerbaijan (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +60.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+12 p.p.), Tajikistan (+8.8 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+6 p.p.), Moldova (+2.7 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-32.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported printing presses in the CIS, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5.5% share.

In Russia, printing press imports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+60.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (-2.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, declining by -23.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Tajikistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
