After two years of growth, shipments abroad of propylene glycol (propane-1,2-diol) decreased by -10.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, propylene glycol exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. Russia prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), comprising a 7.5% share of total exports.

Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +10.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, propylene glycol imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 90% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), comprising a 5.6% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported propylene glycol (propane-1,2-diol) in the CIS, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports.
