After three years of decline, purchases abroad of protein concentrates and flavoured or coloured sugar syrups increased by 31% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 54%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

By contrast, Belarus (-5.0%) and Kyrgyzstan (-13.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+20 p.p.), Moldova (+4.3 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -4.3% and -21.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported protein concentrates and flavoured or coloured sugar syrups in the CIS, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 5.5% share.
