The yield indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rape and colza seed yield decreased by -2.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the rape and colza seed yield reached the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022. The total harvested area indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rape and colza seed harvested area increased by +5.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 44%. After three years of decline, shipments abroad of rape or colza seed increased by 2.5% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rape and colza seed exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 152%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the largest exporter of rape or colza seed in the CIS, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 72% of total exports in 2022. Moldova (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Kazakhstan (13%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to rape and colza seed exports from Russia stood at +15.4%. At the same time, Moldova (+21.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Moldova increased by +28 and +9.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest rape and colza seed supplier in the CIS, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Moldova ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
In Russia, rape and colza seed exports increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+23.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (-2.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of rape or colza seed increased by 57% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 603%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, rape and colza seed imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 241%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Belarus dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 89% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 6.1% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the rape or colza seed imports, with a CAGR of +54.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+41.7%) and Kazakhstan (+30.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belarus (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -4.7% and -13% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rape or colza seed in the CIS, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports.
In Belarus, rape and colza seed imports expanded at an average annual rate of +57.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+15.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+31.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 88% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
