In 2022, the average raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield in the CIS declined slightly to X tons per ha, approximately mirroring the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the yield increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2021, and then declined in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry harvested area fell to X ha in 2022, declining by -2.7% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, increasing by 36% against 2021 figures. In general, exports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 132%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 95%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) represented the major exporters of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in 2022, finishing at near 42% and 32% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together generating a 21% share of total exports. Russia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +123.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -13.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the seventh consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in purchases abroad of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries, which increased by 3.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 72% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), mixing up a 23% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+90.5%), Belarus (+43.6%) and Kazakhstan (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +90.5% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+20 p.p.) and Moldova (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.1 p.p.) and Russia (-20.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 1.9% share.

In Russia, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+41.3% per year) and Moldova (+59.7% per year).
