The average cattle hide and skin yield stood at X kg per head in 2021, standing approx. at 2020. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 3.8%. The level of yield peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
In 2021, Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) represented the major exporter of raw hides and skins of cattle in the CIS, comprising 83% of total export. Moldova (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.9% share, followed by Russia (4.9%). Armenia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of +18.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cattle hide and skin supplying countries in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X), with a combined 62% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Armenia, which together accounted for a further 37%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Armenia, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -15.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 111%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, overseas purchases of raw hides and skins of cattle increased by 23% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 1,010% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 273%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), achieving a 9.9% share of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raw hides and skins of cattle imports, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan (-30.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+83 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-78.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raw hides and skins of cattle in the CIS, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 1.3% share of total imports.
In Russia, cattle hide and skin imports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the period from 2012-2021.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 335% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan amounted to $X per ton.
