Recovered Fibre Pulp Market Size in CIS

The CIS recovered fibre pulp market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Recovered Fibre Pulp Production in CIS

In value terms, recovered fibre pulp production declined notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 41,652,150% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Recovered Fibre Pulp Exports

Exports in CIS

Recovered fibre pulp exports reduced rapidly to X tons in 2022, declining by -30.2% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 146% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, recovered fibre pulp exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 90%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to recovered fibre pulp exports from Russia stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2022. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Russia (+5.2 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest recovered fibre pulp supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 8.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to -1.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-0.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+25.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 109%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, the amount of recovered fibre pulp imported in the CIS skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, recovered fibre pulp imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 74% of total imports. Moldova (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons). All these countries together held near 22% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +89.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 82% share of total imports. Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

Among the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +65.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Belarus ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+18.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
