The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, exports of sunflower-seed or safflower oil, refined, but not chemically modified rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +67.1% against 2018 indices. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Moldova (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+4.4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Moldova saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest sunflower-seed or safflower oil, refined, but not chemically modified supplier in the CIS, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of sunflower-seed or safflower oil, refined, but not chemically modified, when their volume decreased by -14.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, imports of sunflower-seed or safflower oil, refined, but not chemically modified soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 58%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Azerbaijan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +28.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sunflower-seed or safflower oil, refined, but not chemically modified in the CIS, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 13% share.
