In general, imports recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the key importer of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles, achieving 49% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (8.9%) and Uzbekistan (8.2%). Azerbaijan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +6.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
