In 2021, the CIS harvesting machinery market increased by 2.9% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, harvesting machinery exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belarus dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), committing a 4.7% share of total exports.

Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of root or tuber harvesting machines. Russia (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest harvesting machinery supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Belarus amounted to -3.5%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -13.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Belarus amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-3.1%).

In 2021, purchases abroad of root or tuber harvesting machines was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, harvesting machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importer of root or tuber harvesting machines in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was near 62% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units), together creating a 36% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -7.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+12.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +12.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan increased by +13 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported root or tuber harvesting machines in the CIS, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to -10.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+11.3% per year) and Belarus (-13.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 55% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
