Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +30.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 21%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+38.6%) and Uzbekistan (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +38.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-12.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+15 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -16.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest rusks and toasted bread supplier in the CIS, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 3.3% share.

In Russia, rusks and toasted bread exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+44.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+34.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products increased by 12% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together committing a 40% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +41.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest rusks and toasted bread importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X), together accounting for 83% of total imports. Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +68.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+19.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
