Over the period under review, exports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Russia was the major exporter of sawnwood (non-coniferous) in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X cubic meters, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X cubic meters), creating a 10% share of total exports.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sawnwood (non-coniferous) export price increased by +68.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 52%. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per cubic meter), while Russia stood at $X per cubic meter.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, imports of sawnwood (non-coniferous) in the CIS rose slightly to X cubic meters, increasing by 1.7% on the year before. Overall, imports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Belarus (X cubic meters), Uzbekistan (X cubic meters), Russia (X cubic meters) and Azerbaijan (X cubic meters) represented the key importers of sawnwood (non-coniferous), together constituting 95% of total imports. Tajikistan (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +14.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 73% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, waning by -7.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 15%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per cubic meter), while Kazakhstan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
