The CIS vehicle seat market contracted to $X in 2022, declining by -5.5% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of seats for motor vehicles, when their volume decreased by -9.4% to X units. In general, exports, however, posted a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, vehicle seat exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X units) represented the main exporter of seats for motor vehicles, making up 79% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Belarus (5.2%).

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of seats for motor vehicles. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+124.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +124.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -7.1% and -8.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest vehicle seat supplier in the CIS, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+7.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+159.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -8.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vehicle seat export price decreased by -23.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, vehicle seat imports in the CIS contracted to X units, declining by -11.5% against the previous year. Overall, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 164%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The following importers - Kazakhstan (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) - together made up 5.9% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -8.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+37.8%), Belarus (+11.6%) and Kazakhstan (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +37.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+6 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.5 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-12.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported seats for motor vehicles in the CIS, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+17.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+12.3% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -2.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vehicle seat import price increased by +8.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
