The total production indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 28% against the previous year. After two years of growth, shipments abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) decreased by -18.6% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 214% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, semiconductor LED exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 168% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia (X units) and Armenia (X units) prevails in exports structure, together generating 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units), constituting a 9.8% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +719.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest semiconductor LED supplier in the CIS, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 4.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +16.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+3.7% per year) and Armenia (+765.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), when their volume decreased by -12.5% to X units. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 180%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, semiconductor LED imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 79%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X units) was the key importer of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), mixing up 43% of total imports. Armenia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 27% share, followed by Uzbekistan (16%) and Kazakhstan (8.3%). Moldova (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +169.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in the CIS, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 9.7% share.
In Russia, semiconductor LED imports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (+95.6% per year) and Uzbekistan (+73.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
