In 2022, overseas shipments of sheet piling of steel increased by 16% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 235%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, steel sheet piling exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 144%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the largest exporter of sheet piling of steel in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. Azerbaijan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total exports. Moldova (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+30.1%) and Belarus (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +30.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+30 p.p.), Belarus (+3.2 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Azerbaijan saw its share reduced by -34.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest steel sheet piling supplier in the CIS, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Azerbaijan (-17.1% per year) and Belarus (+9.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -14.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+18.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, the amount of sheet piling of steel imported in the CIS amounted to X tons, picking up by 4.4% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 160%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, steel sheet piling imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 149%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 78% of total imports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.6% share, followed by Kazakhstan (7.9%). Uzbekistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to steel sheet piling imports into Russia stood at -13.8%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+377.7%) and Belarus (+19.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +377.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+9.2 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+5.1 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -16% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sheet piling of steel in the CIS, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 11% share.
In Russia, steel sheet piling imports shrank by an average annual rate of -15.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-0.7% per year) and Belarus (+18.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
