The CIS cellulose fibrecement sheet market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, reducing by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a deep slump. After four years of growth, overseas shipments of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement decreased by -56.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 199% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Russia prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement exports, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012 to 2022. Kazakhstan (-24.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia increased by +54 percentage points.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest cellulose fibrecement sheet supplier in the CIS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 0.3% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 91% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement increased by 9.2% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 142%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 58% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Azerbaijan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cellulose fibrecement sheet imports into Russia stood at +12.9%. At the same time, Moldova (+29.7%), Kazakhstan (+20.2%) and Belarus (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +29.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-21.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+41 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+21 p.p.) and Moldova (+5.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Azerbaijan (-68.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cellulose fibrecement sheet importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X), with a combined 94% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +19.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 202%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
