The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, smoked salmon exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 118%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Belarus (X tons) was the main exporter of smoked pacific, atlantic and danube salmon, generating 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), making up a 26% share of total exports.

Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of smoked pacific, atlantic and danube salmon. At the same time, Russia (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +4.9% from 2012-2022. In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+1.6%).

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of smoked pacific, atlantic and danube salmon decreased by -8.4% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, smoked salmon imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. All these countries together held approx. 42% share of total imports. The following importers - Moldova (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each amounted to a 4% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+74.4%), Belarus (+67.3%), Azerbaijan (+31.7%) and Armenia (+14.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +74.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-1.7%) and Moldova (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+19 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+9 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Moldova (-10.1 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-24.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported smoked pacific, atlantic and danube salmon in the CIS, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 14% share.

In Russia, smoked salmon imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+54.9% per year) and Belarus (+57.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 24%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
