The CIS spark plug market dropped sharply to $X in 2022, reducing by -29.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a mild setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of sparking plugs decreased by -20.9% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 81%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, spark plug exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Russia prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+33.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +33.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-5.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest spark plug supplier in the CIS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports.

In Russia, spark plug exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Russia amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.4%).

Spark plug imports contracted slightly to X units in 2022, reducing by -3.3% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 120% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spark plug imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 70% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Kazakhstan (6.2%). Belarus (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Armenia (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of sparking plugs. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+44.0%), Uzbekistan (+18.0%), Armenia (+8.9%), Belarus (+6.0%) and Kazakhstan (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +44.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+13 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-17 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sparking plugs in the CIS, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.7% share.

In Russia, spark plug imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+11.0% per year) and Belarus (+6.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+14.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
