Exports in CIS
In 2021, after five years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of spectacles and goggles, when their volume decreased by -0.6% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
In value terms, spectacles and goggles exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Russia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 96% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the spectacles and goggles exports, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest spectacles and goggles supplier in the CIS, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +5.1%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 28% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Russia amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+35.3%).

Imports in CIS
For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in purchases abroad of spectacles and goggles, which increased by 7.9% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +32.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, spectacles and goggles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 57% of total imports. Belarus (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Kazakhstan (9.7%). Moldova (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Armenia (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of spectacles and goggles. At the same time, Belarus (+42.4%), Azerbaijan (+37.3%), Moldova (+34.6%), Armenia (+33.9%) and Kazakhstan (+16.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +42.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia increased by +22, +5.2, +3, +2.5 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spectacles and goggles in the CIS, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -3.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+12.5% per year) and Belarus (+9.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
