Sulphonamides Market Size in CIS

For the third year in a row, the CIS sulphonamides market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 4.4% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +73.8% against 2015 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, sulphonamides production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of sulphonamides decreased by -6.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, sulphonamides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +25.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+52.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +52.1% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+3.5 p.p.) and Russia (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest sulphonamides supplier in the CIS, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +26.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sulphonamides export price increased by +38.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 45% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.3%).

Imports in CIS

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in overseas purchases of sulphonamides, which increased by 1.5% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +121.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importer of sulphonamides in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 84% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), mixing up an 11% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphonamides imports into Russia stood at +3.8%. At the same time, Belarus (+8.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +8.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-6.2%) and Kazakhstan (-15.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+4.2 p.p.), Belarus (+3.8 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -10.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sulphonamides in the CIS, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 4.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1% share.

In Russia, sulphonamides imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+7.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (-0.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 42%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+18.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
