The country with the largest volume of frozen sweet corn production was Moldova (X tons), comprising approx. 76% of total volume. Moreover, frozen sweet corn production in Moldova exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Belarus (X tons), threefold.

In Moldova, frozen sweet corn production shrank by an average annual rate of -4.2% over the period from 2012-2021.

Exports in CIS

In 2021, shipments abroad of frozen sweet corn was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Moldova was the major exporter of frozen sweet corn in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 72% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 25% share of total exports. Russia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Moldova increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+41.8%) and Belarus (+26.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +41.8% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+16 p.p.) and Russia (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Moldova saw its share reduced by -18.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Moldova ($X) remains the largest frozen sweet corn supplier in the CIS, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Moldova totaled +10.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+37.4% per year) and Russia (+33.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of frozen sweet corn were imported in the CIS; with a decrease of -2.1% on the previous year. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +2.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), generating an 8.3% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+64.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +64.3% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+8.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -7.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen sweet corn in the CIS, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +2.2%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
