Organic Pigments Market Size in CIS

The CIS organic pigments market rose slightly to $X in 2021, growing by 3.4% against the previous year. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments decreased by -9.6% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, organic pigments exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +66.3% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 15% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+31.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-5.2 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest organic pigments supplier in the CIS, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +3.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+25.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (-7.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 27% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments decreased by -1.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, organic pigments imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +117.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 33%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 63% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up 7.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to organic pigments imports into Russia stood at -1.3%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+25.9%), Tajikistan (+25.3%) and Kazakhstan (+8.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+18 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+1.7 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-22.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments in the CIS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +3.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+11.8% per year) and Belarus (-0.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
