Synthetic Rubber Market Size in CIS

In 2021, the CIS synthetic rubber market decreased by -5.4% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, consumption saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, synthetic rubber exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The biggest shipments were from Russia (X tons), together resulting at 100% of total export.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the synthetic rubber exports, with a CAGR of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest synthetic rubber supplier in the CIS.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -3.7%.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

In 2021, approx. X tons of synthetic rubber were imported in the CIS; surging by 10% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 13%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic rubber imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 62% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) took a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (6.2%).

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia and Uzbekistan increased by +12 and +6.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported synthetic rubber in the CIS, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.

In Russia, synthetic rubber imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-10.7% per year) and Uzbekistan (+11.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
