In 2021, the CIS tamping machinery market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest tamping machinery supplier in the CIS, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports.

In 2021, overseas purchases of tamping or compacting machinery increased by 35% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 749%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia prevails in imports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), committing a 4.6% share of total imports. Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tamping or compacting machinery imports, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+6.8%) and Kazakhstan (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia (+8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
