Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, passenger car tyre imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia represented the major importer of tyres for motor cars in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 58% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (10%) and Belarus (8.2%). Azerbaijan (X units), Armenia (X units) and Moldova (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+12.7%), Moldova (+9.3%), Armenia (+8.8%), Uzbekistan (+6.5%) and Azerbaijan (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+6 p.p.), Belarus (+5.4 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-16.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tyres for motor cars in the CIS, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 9.6% share.

In Russia, passenger car tyre imports declined by an average annual rate of -6.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-0.6% per year) and Belarus (+10.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
