Toilet Paper Market Size in CIS

The CIS toilet paper market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, toilet paper exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), comprising a 4.7% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the toilet paper exports, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -5.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest toilet paper supplier in the CIS, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 5.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled +15.8%.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+3.0%).

For the third year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in purchases abroad of toilet paper, which increased by 8.5% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, toilet paper imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons), distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons), Moldova (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the largest importers of toilet paper, together achieving 98% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +11.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 75% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +12.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 8.1%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
