Tomato Ketchup Market Size in CIS

The CIS tomato ketchup market dropped modestly to $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Armenia (+17.1%) and Kazakhstan (+13.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +17.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Armenia increased by +2.3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest tomato ketchup supplier in the CIS, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.5% share of total exports.

In Russia, tomato ketchup exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+11.5% per year) and Armenia (+14.3% per year).

Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, tomato ketchup imports stood at $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +110.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Russia represented the key importer of tomato ketchup and tomato sauces in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 41% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together mixing up a 48% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each recorded a 7.5% share of total imports.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Azerbaijan, Moldova, Armenia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +44.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Azerbaijan ($X per ton) and Armenia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
