Turkey Meat Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS turkey meat market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Turkey Meat Production in CIS

In value terms, turkey meat production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -8.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 66% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +10.3%).

The average turkey meat yield expanded remarkably to X kg per head in 2022, surging by 13% compared with the year before. In general, the yield, however, showed a sharp slump. Over the period under review, the turkey meat yield hit record highs at X kg per head in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for turkey meat production in the CIS reduced to X heads, which is down by -7.2% compared with the year before. Overall, the number of producing animals, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 5,308%. The level of producing animals peaked at X heads in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in CIS

In 2022, overseas shipments of turkey meat decreased by -31.8% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 104%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, turkey meat exports fell notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 153% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 88% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), creating a 12% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the turkey meat exports, with a CAGR of +67.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Russia (+83 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-74.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest turkey meat supplier in the CIS, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Russia, turkey meat exports expanded at an average annual rate of +69.8% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.7%).

Turkey Meat Imports

Imports in CIS

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of turkey meat increased by 0.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, turkey meat imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Moldova (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the main importers of turkey meat, together generating 97% of total imports. Armenia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +54.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 75% of total imports. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +79.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+16.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
