Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +11.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, twine and cordage exports fell to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the main exporter of twine, cordage, rope and cables, making up 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), generating a 30% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of twine, cordage, rope and cables. At the same time, Belarus (+26.8%) and Uzbekistan (+14.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2021, twine and cordage imports in the CIS expanded remarkably to X tons, increasing by 5.4% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +66.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, twine and cordage imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +61.5% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the major importer of twine, cordage, rope and cables, constituting 51% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons). All these countries together took near 44% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to twine and cordage imports into Russia stood at +6.8%. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported twine, cordage, rope and cables in the CIS, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled +6.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+4.9% per year) and Azerbaijan (+13.0% per year).
