The CIS uncooked pasta market was estimated at $X in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the largest exporter of uncooked pasta, constituting 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), constituting a 30% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+8.2 p.p.) and Russia (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia totaled $X per ton.

In 2021, purchases abroad of uncooked pasta decreased by -16.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia represented the largest importer of uncooked pasta in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Azerbaijan (11%), Kazakhstan (9.9%), Moldova (5.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (4.9%). Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+33.5%), Azerbaijan (+17.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+14.3%), Kazakhstan (+9.5%), Moldova (+7.1%) and Belarus (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +33.5% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Moldova increased by +7.8, +4.6, +4.4, +3.1, +2.6 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported uncooked pasta in the CIS, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 8.6% share.

In Russia, uncooked pasta imports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+7.2% per year) and Kazakhstan (+8.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
