The total production indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -5.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in CIS
In 2021, shipments abroad of non-mineral or non-aerated waters was finally on the rise to reach X litres for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X litres) represented the major exporter of non-mineral or non-aerated waters, making up 60% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X litres) and Armenia (X litres). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-mineral or non-aerated water exports from Russia stood at +11.6%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+35.2%), Belarus (+20.8%) and Armenia (+17.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +35.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kazakhstan (+11 p.p.), Belarus (+4.8 p.p.) and Armenia (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-17.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water supplier in the CIS, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8% share.
In Russia, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports expanded at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (+12.6% per year) and Belarus (+18.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per litre in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-mineral or non-aerated water export price increased by +81.2% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per litre), while Kazakhstan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Non-Mineral or Non-Aerated Waters
Imports in CIS
In 2021, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports in the CIS soared to X litres, with an increase of 32% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 36%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Belarus represented the key importing country with an import of about X litres, which recorded 53% of total imports. Russia (X litres) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (13%) and Kyrgyzstan (4.7%). Azerbaijan (X litres) took a little share of total imports.
Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-mineral or non-aerated waters imports, with a CAGR of +63.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+57.7%), Russia (+18.9%), Kazakhstan (+4.3%) and Azerbaijan (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belarus (+49 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -5.7%, -9.1% and -39% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 88% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +45.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per litre, waning by -12.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per litre), while Belarus ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
