Vegetable Puree Market Size in CIS

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the CIS vegetable puree market, when its value decreased by -18.1% to $X. Vegetable puree exports expanded notably to X tons in 2022, growing by 15% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 85% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), generating an 8.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - Moldova (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +20.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Armenia (+207.5%), Moldova (+13.8%) and Belarus (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +207.5% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Armenia increased by +27 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in the CIS, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +12.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+8.1% per year) and Armenia (+139.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belarus ($X per ton) and Armenia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of vegetable puree decreased by -17.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), mixing up a 9.2% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+23.2%) and Belarus (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +23.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Kazakhstan (+7.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-8.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
