For the sixth year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of vehicles not mechanically propelled, which increased by 54% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 109%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units), generating a 4.6% share of total exports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vehicles not mechanically propelled exports, with a CAGR of +27.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+19.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia (+5.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -3.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest non-propelled vehicle supplier in the CIS, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports.
In Russia, non-propelled vehicle exports increased at an average annual rate of +25.3% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Russia totaled $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-1.5%).

Imports in CIS
Non-propelled vehicle imports declined to X units in 2021, with a decrease of -8.4% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 30%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X units) represented the largest importer of vehicles not mechanically propelled, mixing up 70% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -5.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+40.4%), Azerbaijan (+14.2%), Kazakhstan (+12.4%) and Belarus (+7.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +40.4% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+7.6 p.p.), Belarus (+4.7 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+4.3 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -20% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vehicles not mechanically propelled in the CIS, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to -3.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+6.0% per year) and Belarus (-0.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, rising by 32% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Azerbaijan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
