Glass Fiber Market Size in CIS

In 2021, the CIS glass fiber market increased by 3.7% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the market value increased by 8.5%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 7.9%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in CIS

In 2021, shipments abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers increased by 3.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 45%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), mixing up a 4.9% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+16.1%) and Belarus (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -3.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest glass fiber supplier in the CIS, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 6% share of total exports.

In Russia, glass fiber exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+5.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+17.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers were imported in the CIS; picking up by 9.3% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass fiber imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia was the key importer of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Belarus (11%), Uzbekistan (7.7%), Kyrgyzstan (5.1%) and Azerbaijan (4.8%). Moldova (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in the CIS, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +1.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-5.1% per year) and Belarus (-5.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
