Wadding Market Size in CIS
The CIS wadding market soared to $X in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Wadding Production in CIS
In value terms, wadding production expanded sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Wadding Exports
Exports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of wadding exported in the CIS shrank significantly to X tons, dropping by -49.1% on the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 424% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wadding exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the largest exporters of wadding in the CIS, together creating 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), constituting a 13% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +21.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest wadding supplier in the CIS, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.
In Russia, wadding exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+14.3% per year) and Belarus (+32.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+62.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Wadding Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2021, purchases abroad of wadding decreased by -7.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, wadding imports contracted to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia was the main importer of wadding in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 62% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 31% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+78.8%), Azerbaijan (+21.5%), Kyrgyzstan (+19.1%) and Belarus (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +78.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan increased by +4.3, +4.1 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wadding in the CIS, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to -1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+0.7% per year) and Azerbaijan (+32.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
