In 2021, shipments abroad of walking-sticks, seat-sticks, whips and riding-crops decreased by -38.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 347% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, walking-sticks and whips exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 258% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the key exporter of walking-sticks, seat-sticks, whips and riding-crops, constituting 60% of total exports. Armenia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Belarus (15%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to walking-sticks and whips exports from Russia stood at +28.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+56.4%) and Armenia (+37.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +56.4% from 2012-2021. The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 52%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded decline in supplies from abroad of walking-sticks, seat-sticks, whips and riding-crops, which decreased by -5.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, walking-sticks and whips imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together achieving an 18% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Armenia (+28.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+28.4%), Azerbaijan (+21.3%), Belarus (+18.3%) and Moldova (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +28.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Armenia (+4.5 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+4.4 p.p.), Belarus (+3.1 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -16.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported walking-sticks, seat-sticks, whips and riding-crops in the CIS, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 6.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -5.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-1.9% per year) and Armenia (+38.0% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
