In 2022, the CIS water-skis and surfboards market decreased by -5% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 119% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, water-skis and surfboards exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Belarus was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 62% of total exports. Russia (X units) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (5.1%). Moldova (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the water-skis, surfboards and sailboards exports, with a CAGR of +168.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+71.0%), Moldova (+48.3%) and Russia (+32.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belarus (+62 p.p.), Moldova (+4.3 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -69.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest water-skis and surfboards supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Moldova ($X), together comprising 64% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +138.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+18.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, supplies from abroad of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards decreased by -10.8% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, water-skis and surfboards imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units) represented the main importer of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, committing 69% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Belarus (14%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to water-skis and surfboards imports into Russia stood at +7.0%. At the same time, Belarus (+31.4%) and Kazakhstan (+20.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2022. Belarus (+12 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -21.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported water-skis, surfboards and sailboards in the CIS, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.

In Russia, water-skis and surfboards imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+16.6% per year) and Belarus (+19.6% per year).
