Russia (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the welded and cold-formed sections of steel exports, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest welded and cold-formed steel sections supplier in the CIS.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of welded and cold-formed sections of steel increased by 47% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports posted a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 113%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, welded and cold-formed steel sections imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 54%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the largest importers of welded and cold-formed sections of steel in 2022, amounting to approx. 35% and 33% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together making up a 28% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest welded and cold-formed steel sections importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 13%.

Among the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +20.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -36.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
