The shipments of the two major exporters of wood chips and particles, namely Russia and Belarus, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +17.2%).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest wood chips and particles supplier in the CIS, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 29% share of total exports.
In Russia, wood chips and particles exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, which is down by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per cubic meter), while Belarus stood at $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-1.1%).

Imports in CIS
In 2022, imports of wood chips and particles in the CIS rose rapidly to X cubic meters, picking up by 14% against 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +15.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +108.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 57%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the major importer of wood chips and particles in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X cubic meters, which was near 42% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters), Uzbekistan (X cubic meters), Moldova (X cubic meters) and Kyrgyzstan (X cubic meters), together generating a 52% share of total imports. Armenia (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +58.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wood chips and particles in the CIS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with an 8.8% share.
In Russia, wood chips and particles imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+1.2% per year) and Uzbekistan (+17.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, which is down by -6.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wood chips and particles import price increased by +78.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
