The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 82%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wood fuel exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia (X cubic meters) and Belarus (X cubic meters) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2022.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +17.1%).
In value terms, the largest wood fuel supplying countries in the CIS were Belarus ($X) and Russia ($X).
Belarus, with a CAGR of +26.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wood fuel export price increased by +56.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per cubic meter), while Russia amounted to $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+7.9%).
Wood Fuel Imports
Imports in CIS
Wood fuel imports contracted notably to X cubic meters in 2022, shrinking by -33% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 279% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, wood fuel imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 114% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan (X cubic meters) and Belarus (X cubic meters) prevails in imports structure, together creating 82% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X cubic meters) and Tajikistan (X cubic meters), together generating a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +62.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wood fuel in the CIS, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 15% share.
In Kazakhstan, wood fuel imports declined by an average annual rate of -21.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+18.2% per year) and Tajikistan (+37.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per cubic meter), while Belarus ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (-0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
